What To Expect On Your Wedding Day

Documentary wedding photography is like having a silent storyteller capture the heart and soul of your special day.

Instead of spending too much time, keeping you away from the celebration posing you for perfect shots, I’ll blend into the background, observing and capturing the genuine moments as they unfold. From stolen glances to laughter-filled dances, I’ll create a visual narrative that reflects the true essence of your special day, allowing you to relive every emotion and detail as it unfolded, so that you’ll be able to look back & enjoy them forever.

York wedding photographer, How I work to ensure that you have a collection of photographs that tell the full story of your wedding day

Your Day

No two weddings are the same & I will work with you to capture the day that reflects you & what made your day unique.  It’s important for your photographs to tell the story of your day, naturally, as it unfolded & as unposed as possible.  My wedding packages include me starting 3hrs before the ceremony and finishing 60 mins after the first dance, but I’m more than happy to tailor that to fit your day.

For the majority of the day, you’ll hardly know I’m there because  the best way to capture the tiny details and the real, natural moments and emotions, is to be as unobtrusive as possible. I take a candid, fly-on-the-wall approach to the day, with maybe a little time for some relaxed & natural portraits.

My aim is to document your day with as minimal interruption so that you can spend your time in the moment, enjoying your day. Of course, if you’d like some group photographs, I’m happy to organise them to ensure that they run smoothly and don’t take over the afternoon.

One of the most important parts of what I do is enabling you to be present and enjoy your wedding day, with your family & friends, without photographs taking over.

My Experience

I’ve been a photographer all of my life.  From school, to university, from years travelling & photographing the world working on cruise ships, to now, I’ve always loved meeting &  photographing people.  I’ve documented more than 200 weddings, all over the UK and Europe.

I started photography when film was the only option, before digital cameras.  I still enjoy film photography and I often bring a 35mm camera along to weddings. If you’d like some film photographs, just let me know.

I’m a full time photographer & when I’m not documenting weddings, I have a studio where I photograph headshots for actors, writers and creative types and I document theatrical productions throughout Yorkshire & the North East. I’m also working on a couple of personal documentary projects which you’re more than welcome to have a look at here.

After Your Wedding

After your wedding, I edit your photographs. I don’t like to use fancy presets that are basically like Instagram filters. They go out of fashion very quickly and leave you with a dated collection of photographs. I edit your photographs in a classical documentary style & give you a set in colour & a set in black & white, all on a beautiful USB. Depending on the time of year, that takes about 4-6 weeks. Once your photographs are ready, I’ll also create a private gallery of everything for you, so that you can share the link and show the photographs to family & friends

I know that’s a long time to wait when you’re excited to see your photographs, so, I do a preview blog post within a few days of your wedding with a selection of a few images to keep you going.

If you booked the Album Package, once you have your photographs, you just need to pick your favourite 50-75 images and then I will design your book for you. You get to approve the design & make requests to re-order or change images if you like, once you’re happy with the design, I order your book for you.

What Next ?

So, what to do next ? I can recommend taking a look at the FAQ’s page, there’s a summary of the most common questions that I get asked there. I’d also have a look at some Real Weddings and get a feel for how other wedding days flow. You might even get some ideas for your own day. Obviously, you’ll want to have a look at Packages & Prices & then after all that, you should definitely get in touch via the Contact page. I look forward to hearing from you.
