Mark Hillyer

Mark Hillyer Yorkshire Based documentary & Wedding Photographer

I’ve always been a photographer. It’s the only job that I’ve had that I’ve really enjoyed. I think it’s because you create something tangible that’s special to people. For as long as I can remember I’ve loved meeting people and hearing their stories.  I especially like creative people. I’m not specific about it, I just think making or creating stuff that other people like is fantastic. It’s what we’re here for.

Photography gave me 15 years of travelling the world & I loved every minute of it, except the bits where I was sleeping in airports. There was only so long that my back was going to let me get away with that, so now, home is in the Yorkshire countryside, between Leeds and York, with my wife & daughter, a dog & a cat. It’s a lot more comfortable than an airport floor. Sometimes it’s more noisy too.

Some stuff about me…

I’m currently working on a photography project to document the human impact on the Yorkshire coast. If you’d like to see some of my personal work, it’s here.

I love road cycling & the Giro D’Italia is my favourite 3 weeks of the year. It’s my Christmas. The Tour De France is great & I do love it, but the Giro is special.

I learned to play the Harmonica because it’s easier than being a musician. (My Harmonica teacher will never forgive me if he ever reads that ).
