Wood Lane Countryside Centre Wedding, Sheffield | Sarah & Alex
The strange thing about Wood Lane Countryside Centre in Sheffield is that it’s about 5 minutes drive from the centre of the city & yet you feel like you’re miles away from anywhere. You’re surrounded by trees, orchards & the sound of birds singing. It’s like being in a Disney movie. I could see why Sarah & Alex chose it for their beautiful Sheffield wedding day.
I arrived at Woodlane nice and early. Sarah didn’t want photographs of her getting ready, so I took the opportunity to get some photo’s of the groom, best man & some friends getting the venue ready for the day. There were some nerves as to whether the seats would all get covered on time & it got close enough for me to put the camera down and grab some seat covers myself, but we got there in the end.
Alex & Sarah are extremely chilled out people & I knew that the day was going to be a little bit unconventional when I arrived & saw Alex’s choice of wedding hairstyle. Between the venue & the bride & groom, I think this was one of the most relaxed weddings that I’ve covered. Relaxed that is, apart from the joker who nearly gave Alex a heart attack by deploying a Confetti Cannon half way through the gentle ‘bubbles instead of confetti’ walk!
So, after the ceremony, outside in the warm summer sunshine & an afternoon of chatting & catching up with friends & family, who travelled from far & wide to be here, everyone headed inside for something to eat. Closely followed by speeches. After the speeches, came the traditional kidnapping of the bride by an evil medieval knight and his accomplice. Yes, you read that correctly.
Alex is a part time Medieval Combat re-enactment person (I have no idea what the official term for that is!!). So for some afternoon entertainment, the guests were treated to the groom fighting to the death with his new bride’s kidnappers. (No knights were really harmed in the making of this re-enactment).
Back inside we all went for the cake cutting, I knew that sword would come in handy again, and then on to the first dance.
Warning: Please don’t have a bridal kidnap sword fight at your wedding unless everyone is properly trained, as they were in this case. The swords were not sharp, but they were heavy and no one needs to explain that kind of injury in A&E on a Saturday night
