Caroline & Chris | Wedding at Sheriff Hutton Castle, York
It’s hard, after months of cold, wet and wind to remember summer. Warm days, bright skies, greenery and birds and bees going about their business. It’s for that reason that I’ve decided to share this wedding with you today.
Caroline & Chris got married at Sheriff Hutton Castle, just outside York, last summer. It’s a beautiful ruin dating back to the 14th century in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside. It does, however, have a room that has survived the ravages of time & it’s here that the wedding took place. Caroline & Chris along with their family had decorated the room to perfection. It was a beautiful setting.
After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed the sunshine and sat out on the extensive lawn, playing garden games and enjoying cream teas. Now, when it comes to a proper cream tea, do you put the jam on the scone first, or the cream?
After a perfect afternoon in the sun, it was on to the Durham Ox in Crayke, not far away, for a summer evening of food, friends and speeches
Sheriff Hutton Castle Wedding Venue
The castle was built in the 14th century and is Grade II listed. Sheriff Hutton Castle was at one time the grandest castle in Northern England, which is no mean feat considering some of the competition. It was a favourite residence of Richard III and Henry VIII and is steeped in 600 years of royal history. It’s very much a unique, multi-function venue, located just 25 minutes north of York, it is licensed for weddings. The setting is absolutely perfect for summer weddings with extensive lawns & spectacular views over the surrounding area. The Sounding Hall, where Caroline & Chris had their ceremony makes for a stunning and romantic wedding venue.
The Durham Ox Wedding Venue
Continuing the trend of venues that are, well, really old, the Durham Ox is a spritely (compared to the castle) 300 years old. The pub is in the centre of the village of Crayke, a charming, picturesque hill-top village to the north of York, two miles north-east of the market town of Easingwold, in North Yorkshire. There are extensive panoramic views, East, West and South. Crayke stands 379 ft (Come on – who doesn’t love a detail like that!!) above sea level.
An award winning traditional pub complete with flag stone floors, exposed beams and oak panelling. The Ox Barn at the back of the pub is where Caroline & Chris had their reception.
